Hug of Hearts 5. Frilly Heart
The patterns are 4, 6 and 8 cm across at the widest point. The 4cm suits a 28 to 34 wpc thread. Add more passives for finer threads, add some sparkle, or coloured thread for fun. These can be fitted into bangles as decorations.
I used a frilly edge trail to match the mood and worked the two inside passives in the trail as half stitch. The passives are cloth stitch, two half stitches, cloth stitch.
This pattern has a simple winkie pin edge, with the plaits being joined at the pin, either by one of the plait pairs changing places with the worker pair. If the plait is a different colour, the worker goes through in cloth stitch (ctc) using each of the plait pairs as single threads, pin and cloth stitch out again. The plaited edge can be added afterwards. Pairs - 14 worked in both directions. This design can be made in one direction with 7 pairs and joined to the beginning point.
The plaited frill is held in shape by the picots. Two picots on the plait can give a curved, scallop edge. Work the first section of plait, make the picot (one or two pair picot) and continue with the plait in the same direction until there is enough made to create the picot at the next pinhole. This helps the plait stay solid and doesn't try to drag away from the picot pin.
A zig zag frill is made by only placing one picot at the center of the curve, make the plait to the point and back to the edge pin.
Video on adding a zigzag plait on afterwards. This will also work with the curved frill picot plait.

This frilly edge doesn't affect any ground or pattern used inside the heart.
There are some empty hearts in the set of 24, don’t be upset for them, they are just waiting for you to fill them with your choice of stitches.
