4 Honeycomb Heart
Start with the two direction edge. I used an extra twist before the outer pair of passives to make a featured vein in the edge.
Video link for Honeycomb ground here-
The patterns are 4, 6 and 8 cm across at the widest point. The 4cm suits a 28 to 34 wpc thread. Add more passives for finer threads, add some sparkle, or coloured thread for fun.
The edges can be a simple winkie pin, picot or a pin under 4. Pairs for this pattern - approx 24. Start the edge in two directions.
Honeycomb stitch is made with half stitch and twist in the ground and also around each pin. The extra twist around the pin creates an extra hole in the ground, giving an open texture.
Add pairs at the pins as needed. It is worth planning ahead to see where you will need a new pair, many pairs can be turned at the edge to be reused in the honeycomb without adding new pairs. Choose the nearest pin when turning a pair back into the ground, sometimes a pair may need to be carried along with the passives before it is used again. The heart narrows and pairs are thrown out working towards the point. Try to avoid taking out more than one, or two pairs at any one pin. Plan ahead, changing the side you work from can alter which pairs are kept and which pairs are thrown out. Take these into the edge and throw out the passives towards the outer edge first so that the pairs taken into the edge have some distance before they become the outer passives in their turn. This will help secure the threads before being cut off.
